FAQs
Why is the Rylo app helpful for my patients?
Rylo lets Deaf and hard-of-hearing patients make and take phone calls with real-time captions. They can listen and read at the same time, or type and have Rylo speak for them. That means your patients can book appointments, ask questions, and follow up on their care on their own. No relay operator. No family member translating.
Does Rylo have ads?
No. Rylo has no ads. Ever.
Why does Rylo ask for home address and other personal information?
Rylo is a federally certified captioned telephone service. The FCC requires every certified provider to verify that each user lives in the U.S. and has hearing loss, and the user's address is needed to handle emergency calls. That's what the address and personal info are for.
Is my patient’s private information shared with anyone?
No. Rylo doesn't sell patient data or share it with marketers, advertisers, or third parties without user consent. Calls and captions always stay private to the patient.
Is the caller’s voice heard along with captions in real time?
Yes. The caller's voice plays live while captions appear on screen. Patients can listen, read, or do both. Whatever works best for them.
Can non-verbal patients use Rylo?
Yes. Non-verbal patients can type their responses on calls, and Rylo speaks it out loud in a natural voice. The caller's reply comes back as captions.
Does Rylo require a cellular plan?
No. Rylo runs either over cellular or over Wi-Fi or any data connection. A cellular plan isn't required.
Can the caption size be adjusted for low vision?
Yes. Patients can change caption size, font, color, and contrast in settings. Captions can also be displayed in high-contrast mode for low vision.
Does Rylo work for in-person conversations and group calls?
Yes. Rylo Live Transcribe is an in-person mode that captions face-to-face conversations, and Rylo Phone supports group and conference calls.
What extra features does Rylo have for patients?
Rylo offers tons of features such as a built in captioned voicemail; Searchable call history with full transcripts; Type-to-speak for non-verbal use; Custom captions for low vision; In-person captioning for clinic visits; Spam call blocking; and much more.
Is Rylo HIPAA compliant?
Yes. Rylo is HIPAA compliant.
What does HIPAA-compliant mean for patients?
HIPAA is the federal law that protects health information. HIPAA compliant means Rylo meets the standards for storing and handling that information safely. Your patients can talk to your office on Rylo with the same protections they'd get on any clinical phone line.
